Dear KAUST community,

Both the CMT and the EOC established for the current crisis have been very active in the last 24 hours and we feel it is important to update you on the latest developments.

Physical and mental health

As this wave of contact tracing comes to an end we are happy to allow walking, jogging, and cycling in groups of 2 or family groups, with full observation of social distancing starting today at 5:00 p.m. We encourage all community members to safeguard their mental and physical wellbeing while continuing to be vigilant regarding social distancing. All play parks and astro fields will remain closed at this time, and we urge you not to allow children from different families to play together.

Tamimi

Tamimi markets will reopen at 5:00 p.m. this evening for a maximum of 20 people at a time. The door will be supervised to manage the numbers inside. People should return later, the store will be open until 11:00 p.m. and will open tomorrow from 7:00 a.m. We ask community members to shop one person per household at a time, no small children except when absolutely necessary.

Please shop considerately. There is plenty of stock and there is no need to panic buy.

Tamimi has successfully rolled out online shopping and delivery. They are still working through a few issues, but please be patient as they work to provide an important service to our community.

Around 500 orders have been received through the App and the Tamimi team are working hard to accommodate the demand. If you have not received a phone call yet to confirm your order please be patient, Tamimi will contact you shortly.

Restaurants and retailers

We continue to work with retailers to move staff onto KAUST campus so that food delivery services can be extended. Today we will have the same restaurants delivering as yesterday, namely 10th Hole, Harbor, Steak 7 and the Campus Diner, with a pickup option also available.

Quarantine measures

For anyone returning to KAUST, the following quarantine process applies:

  • Residents returning to KAUST from anywhere in the Kingdom will be required to go into quarantine for up to 14 days, or as long as deemed necessary
  • Anyone returning to KAUST following an urgent medical appointment is required to enter quarantine for up to 14 days, or as long as deemed necessary. If follow up or additional medical appointments are required, exceptions will be made for travel to and from the medical facility. Upon return to KAUST, the 14 day quarantine period will restart
  • Anyone given an exception to leave and re-enter KAUST for any reason will be required to complete quarantine upon return for up to 14 days, or as long as deemed necessary
