- Baybug2Macon, GA294 contributionsI wished the fountain out front were working. We really wanted to go to see Pompeii exhibit. Timed tickets sold out. Overall lines were crazy and people everywhere. We got train info——-good to know. The building is something to see!Written May 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jennifer CAtlanta, GA49 contributionsA gem of a museum! The building itself is beautiful and its location affords excellent views of the city. There is an outdoor art walk going up steps to the museum that is fun for when the weather is good. The collection has a wide variety including some antiquities (Jordan, Egypt and Greek), a small but well mounted Islamic art exhibit, and some beautiful Asian pieces. But, to me, the Cincinnati focus was especially interesting. A large collection of Rookwood pottery was displayed with helpful information about this famous company, paintings with a Western focus and a passion for Japanese art are also part of the city’s history. The museum also contains a number of singular pieces by such well known artists as Diego Rivera, Salvador DalÃ, Picasso, Van Gogh etc.
A lovely cafe serves yummy sandwiches and salads and they had a workshop space with programs for kids/families. All this and it was FREE! (Special exhibits had a cost)
I highly recommend this excellent museum!Written April 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - newyorknickEdmond, OK17 contributionsA history of slavery in North America, as well as some exhibits on continued slavery around the globe. Interesting, if hard to look at and take in- a very sobering experience. (Less about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad’s actual operation than might be expected. ) Might be nit- picking but if anyone from the Museum reads this, some of the lettering on the Exhibit plaques is so small it’s really hard to read.Written April 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zak D0 contributionsThey really focus on the men and women that have protected their area. So many items that encompass every law agency from the area. The staff was fun!Written April 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jenandallthethingsLos Angeles112 contributionsI did a ballpark tour and the museum. They added ballpark tours the week between Christmas and New Year's, which was great for those of us traveling in from out of town.
I started with the museum, I'd recommend starting with the top floor then working your way down. The top floor is dedicated to Reds history. The lower floors are rotating exhibits of baseball history. I spent so much time on the 1st floor that I had to revisit the top floor after the ballpark tour.
Ballpark tour was fun, got some good history and got to be in the stadium, VIP areas, locker room/underbelly and the dugout.
Both combined would be a hit for a baseball fan. I don't follow baseball, but I still very much enjoyed the experience.Written January 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Folks who work there are friendly and smart, and if you haven't been here, you'll delighted that you now know about it.Written March 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Palle MToftlund, Denmark1 contributionSuper interesting tour of the observatory with a chance to see sunspots through the telescope. The history of the observatory is very interesting and told with a lot of heart by the volunteers. We had Valerie as our guide. - Warren D1 contributionThis museum was incredibly insightful and there were numerous artifacts originating from local survivors that provided a glimpse into the harrowing adversity and dehumanization they faced during this depressing period of human history. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and provided numerous accounts of survivors that adequately detailed their stories. Further, the method and mission of this museum center to stimulate the process of becoming an upstander within your own community is incredibly pertinent and is formulated and illustrated through numerous narratives that connect the aforementioned stories towards the end of your tour. Lastly, the staff exhibited much enthusiasm and reverence that demonstrated their motivation to preserve this history while simultaneously instructing how to inspire change in the present.Written April 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AngieNorthfield, OH119 contributionsShould not be overlooked when visiting Cincinnati. The exhibits change frequently. - 522travelersNashville, Tennessee217 contributionsI was intrigued when I read about the Lucky Cat Museum but a little apprehensive about having to make an appointment and texting upon arrival. Because I was curious I requested an appointment for my husband and myself on a late Saturday afternoon.
There was no activity in the surrounding area when we arrived which increased my apprehension. Then a large group of people arrived in the parking lot for martial arts instruction. At the assigned time, we texted, and the owner’s husband came to let us in.
I write all this to assure you, that even though the arrangement seems strange, it will make perfect sense when you visit, and you should! The space is small and packed with lucky cats of all kinds. The owner is an enthusiastic and engaging lady who is very generous to share her collection with the public at no cost. The appointment system allows visitors to enjoy the items without being crowded and protects the collection.
I highly recommend visiting this museum and encourage you to shop liberally in the gift area.Written July 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This is a great place to spend an hour or so and learn about the Harriet Beecher-Stowe, the abolitionist family she was part of, and the home she lived in while in Cincinnati. The time she lived here provided much of the experiences and knowledge used to later write Uncle Tom’s Cabin. A fascinating place.Written January 23, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michael PMason, OH279 contributionsInteresting history on a topic you don’t often think of. It was fascinating to learn the role Cincinnati has played in the field of fire fighting. The museum is on two floors, but I believe there is an elevator if you need it.
We spent a little over an hour here. There are some informative movies that are worth a watch.Written January 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We’d never been and it was nice to wander in and out of different artists studios. Many of the artists has wine and light snacks for the attendees to enjoy. Admission is free, and there is valet parking for $10 which we took advantage of. If you’re looking a different Friday night, check this out.Written June 25, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TravelTimeFarmington, MO218 contributionsThe coffee is amazing and handcrafted sweet treats equally tasty. I visited most mornings I was in town and every latte was as good as the last. I hated to leave! The art is local and diverse offerings that you can purchase off the wall. The atmosphere is very nice. Parking is in the back and it’s very convenient.
I found the staff very friendly and the baristas have all the talent in the world. I rate this as one of my top five favorites in the world! I even bought a Tshirt!Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
