this is the perfect place to grab a sweet treat after dinner! i love how they open so late, too.
they have a couple tables to sit down at, and i love the display of all the beautiful pastries they have. there was one cashier working the line, but the wait was not too long.
tiramisu - i heard the tiramisu here was supposedly the best in SF, and i was lucky to get the last one of the night. it was extremely fluffy and light, and i definitely enjoyed it. my friend thought the rum flavor was too strong, but I thought it was okay so it depends on each person's preference.
cannoli - my friend got this, and it is a standard dessert! the cream filling is thick and perfectly sweet!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joey C.Pittsburg, CA610874Apr 7, 2024Updated review
This is about my awesome experience with Stella's on Sunday April 7th 2024,
It seems I've had a love affair with Stella's for many years, I suppose I'm bummed when I go there at night and have received service that isn't quite as good as the delicious pastries that are in the showcases.
I wish I knew the name of the wonderful woman who was working very hard to take care of many customers by herself with a friendly smile and her wonderful accent, she was taking care of every customer with a hello and a friendly smile.
I was able to purchase an 8" Tiramisu, cannoli's strawberry shortcake & 2 lbs of cookies. This wonderful woman helped me as well as greeted other customers at the same time with that warm welcoming beautiful smile & accent.
It was a great experience this Sunday morning.
I've been to Stella's at night sometimes and it seems that sometimes the service can be overwhelmed by the many customers that go to Stella's.
Bravo Stella's & that wonderful woman that was working Sunday Morning, putting smiles on all of your customers faces, it truly was a wonderful experience,Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 1, 2021Previous reviewGosh it hurts to give this place 3 stars.
I've been coming to Stellas for many years but right before the pandemic of perhaps when Francisco was no longer visable as an employee this place has been a consistent bummer. For years Stellas was the spot in North Beach.
Over the years I've suggested to hundreds of people to go to Green Street and have Dinner. Golden Boy, Soto Mare Oysteria, Chubby Noodle. After you eat dinner walk a block to Columbus turn left and before you know it your at Stellas. For dessert.
How do you run out of Cannoli's at 7:30 on a Sunday night? Could it be the workers didn't want to fill up the Cannoli shell?
We waited in line for about 10 minutes which is good for them that they are busy, and also a restriction on how many customers are allowed in because of the pandemic.
While waiting I'm talking Stellas up with tourists, I did tell them that pre pandemic this was always a go to late night spot to satisfy your sweet tooth craving.
Before the pandemic we went in there bought some items that were sold to us partially frozen.
I thought perhaps they were busy and had no time to allow these items to thaw before they were put in the display case. I also thought Francisco would never allow this to happen.
As I was being told Sunday night they were out of Cannoli's I thought again that Francisco would never have allowedthis to happen..
I did grab a slice of Tiramisu and their version of strawberry Shortcake but the bummer from the No Cannoli's did prevent me from purchasing the overpruced delicious Italian cookies that are sold here. Do Better Stellas, your still my favorite dessert place in the City, however you are starting to make it difficult to brag about your business to tourists. - Niloy G.San Francisco, CA5219Mar 24, 2024
The Italian desserts are better compared to Mara's Italian pastries but not that many options as in Mara's. There is limited seating area. It was raining outside and we had to stand inside and eat.
The staff was polite and efficient.
I would love to visit this place again during a nice sunny afternoon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 23, 2024
I have been here several times they have good pastries, good price and good service .
It is a nice spot for an afternoon coffee and hanging out with friends and family.
Today I bought a tiramisu and some cookies and I loved it . Before I come to a point to take a picture of cookies , I ate them all . So I only have a picture of the tiramisuHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 6, 2024
Tucked away in North Beach, Stella Pastry & Cafe has been a San Francisco institution since 1942. With its charming Italian ambiance and delectable pastries, it's a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth or a desire for an authentic experience.
From the moment you approach the display case, you're greeted by a symphony of pastries. Cannolis, sfogliatelle, biscotti, and an array of Italian cakes. The coffee menu complements the pastries perfectly. From classic espresso drinks to creamy cappuccinos, each cup is brewed with care and expertise.
With its intimate size, seating can be limited, especially during peak hours. Be prepared to wait or grab your treats to go.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 6Oh no 0 - Feb 4, 2024
Solid post date night dessert spot! There weren't so many open places when we got out of a jazz show at Keys Jazz Bistro around the corner - but Stella's came to the rescue! Whilst the cannoli wasn't quite as impeccable as what we were spoiled with in Sicily, it was pretty solid for 9pm on a Thursday night! Lots of choice and we had a hard time not ordering one of everything - it all looked so good!
The cafe itself is not the most luxurious spot to dine in - I imagine most customers grab treats to go - but had some bistro tables and a full espresso bar if you fancy a coffee to go with your cake!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 5, 2024Updated review
I didn't even know I liked cannoli until I came to Stella for my first meal of 2023. It made an impression, so I came again for my first meal of 2024!
I also took a box home for my cannoli-loving extended family, and the consensus was...best ever!
See you in 2025 if not before!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 6, 2023Previous reviewStella is a cute, simple, little Italian bakery.
We made a list of 23 things to do in 2023, and eat cannoli at Stella was one of the easier tasks to check off the list. While we were at it, we decided to add biscotti. After all, it was our first meal of the year....go big.
This was only my second time trying cannoli, and I definitely approved. The coffee and biscotti was also good. I wanted to buy a bunch of things to take home, but seeing that it was January 1, I thought it best to exercise the smallest amount of restraint. - Jan 30, 2024
People who know me in real life know I find it hard to avoid this bakery whenever we are in North Beach. I'm already getting a sugar high just thinking about it because I love cookies. Everything is stellar!
I wholeheartedly recommend Stella's Bakery if you're craving sweets. It's a charming Italian bakery and you are welcomed by super adorable, cheerful staff who are always smiling. This gives me 24/7 Christmas vibes, except there is no Santa Claus eating all the cookies and leaving behind presents.
Get the cannoli! The cannoli cream was thick, the sweetness was just right, and the outer shell was flaky. Their tiramisu is perfect for those who enjoy strong, bitter coffee with rum flavoring... it's so good! The assortment of pastries and cookies is just to die for. I especially love the biscotti selection.
Keep in mind that cookies are priced by weight, so be cautious not to overorder. ;-)Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
