About The Springs

The Springs happily emulate the sweet, melodic country-pop of Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town, but they have a twist: they're a husband-and-wife team. Natives of Alabama, Stewart and Holly Halcomb met in Nashville, where they were both attempting to make their way in the Music City. Before long, they married and formed the Springs, patterning their sound on the mainstream country-pop popular at the dawn of the 2010s. "Dance with Me," a single from the 2016 EP of the same name, was their first charting hit, paving the way for Old Fashioned, their second album, to appear on Billboard's Heatseekers chart upon its June 2018 release. The roots of the Springs lie in another outfit called the Springs, which also featured Stewart Halcomb. This version of the Springs was a teenage Christian country-pop outfit assembled by Stewart's businessman father, Randy. Watching Stewart play with fellow Future Farmers of America members, Randy decided to launch a reality TV show about the casting of a Christian pop group. The television show never materialized but the Springs did, with a fair portion of the sextet hailing from Stewart's high school. This group earned recognition within Christian music circles for its 2008 album, Teens on a Mission. In particular, Stewart Halcomb's song "Mommy's Little Man" drew attention when it was released as a single: it reached number one on Power Source's Christian country charts, leading to the band winning the Youth in Music Award at the Inspirational Country Music Awards in 2008. Within three years, this version of the Springs fell apart, and Stewart Halcomb headed to Nashville from Enterprise, Alabama to take a stab in the secular music industry. In short order, he met Holly Helms, an aspiring singer from New Market, Alabama, at the city's celebrated Bluebird Café. At the time, Helms had been attempting to get on NBC's televised singing competition The Voice, making it as far as the third round of preliminaries. A romantic relationship blossomed after this 2011 encounter, as did a creative partnership, with the duo forming the Springs in 2013 (they'd later marry in 2015 and Holly took Stewart's last name). In June 2014, the Springs released a self-titled debut on CFC Productions. Two years later, the Springs landed the designation of Emerging Artist of 2016 from the CMA. During June of 2016, they released the EP Dance with Me, whose title track wound up reaching 42 on Billboard's country charts. A second album, Old Fashioned, arrived in June 2018. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
