Everytown Applauds Citigroup for Setting Common-Sense Gun Policies for its Business Partners

3.22.2018

Citigroup Announced Today that It’s Setting Restrictions on Sale of Firearms by Its Business Customers, Including Requirement for Background Checks on All Gun Sales and Prohibition on Firearm Sales to Those Under 21

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention organization, today applauded Citigroup for its decision to require its business customers to adhere to common-sense gun safety policies. Citigroup’s new policy will bar customers from engaging in firearm sales without a background check and to anyone under the age of 21. It also prohibits the sale of bump stocks and high-capacity magazines by its business customers.

Citigroup changed its policy shortly after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed seventeen students and educators and wounded more than a dozen.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“We commend Citigroup for doing the right thing and taking meaningful steps to ensure public safety. The public overwhelmingly supports common-sense measures to keep us safe, and the policies announced by Citigroup reflect the values of their customers and all Americans.”
