Nano Night with Boy Scouts Troop 216

On Thursday evening, February 24th, 2022, the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) hosted a group of local Boy Scouts accompanied by a few of their parents and Troop 216 leaders. Nano Night, a new outreach activity at the JSNN, was organized by Dr. Kristen Dellinger, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nanoengineering, who made a brief oral presentation with an overview of the world of nanotechnology. In addition, she led a group of JSNN volunteers carrying out a handful of demonstrations and hands-on experiments for those in attendance, including a discussion of thin films, an outline of the physics and mathematics of a pendulum wave generator, and an introduction to the chemical elements and the periodic table. The evening concluded with a guided tour of JSNN’s state-of-the-art facilities and the hope that additional groups of Boy (and Girl…!) Scouts from the Triad region will visit us in the near future.
