Everytown for Gun Safety Responds to Attorney General’s Call for a Summit on Mass Shootings

10.23.2019

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety, the country’s largest gun violence prevention organization, today released the following statement on a memo from U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr to law enforcement officials calling for a December summit on the issue of mass violence:

“If the Trump administration is serious about preventing mass shootings, it will push Senate Republicans to do their job and pass two laws that have been proven to prevent gun violence: background checks on all gun sales and a strong red flag law,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Strengthening law enforcement’s threat assessment capacity is a worthy goal, but it is not nearly enough in the face of a public health crisis that claims 100 American lives every single day.”
