Downtown tower lands juice café

Boston-based franchise business Kwench Juice Café will open a restaurant in downtown mixed-use building The Cumberland.

The café will take the space at 555 Church St. last home to Fed Ex and next to D’Andrews Bakery & Café. Of note, this will be the first Kwench in Tennessee.

The franchisee is Tara Mitchner, who is eyeing an early March opening. This will be Mitchner’s first café business.

A permit, valued at $68,500, has been issued to allow for the build-out of the 1,400-square-foot space. Brentwood-based J. Clark and Co. is handling the job. The work will be underway next week.

“We are very hopeful and excited about Kwench and serving downtown business people and residents,” said Mitchner, who has lived in Nashville since 2008.

Mitchner said the business will be family-owned and -operated. She expects to have four to five employees. Terms of the lease and the cost to get operational are not being disclosed, Mitchner said.

Kwench is known primarily for its juice offerings and also features a menu with smoothies and some food items. The company begin operations in 2015 in Boston. It now operates eight cafes in six states: Arizona, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Texas. In addition to Nashville, there are Kwench cafés slated for Boise, Dallas, Destin (Florida), Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland (Oregon) and Washington, D.C.

Chris Gregoris serves as president and founder of Kwench Juice Franchising Inc., the parent company.
