Addressing Homelessness: Professional Boundaries and Ethics When Working with People Who Have SMI/CODs Tuesday, February 4, 2020 7:00:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time - 9:15:00 PM Coordinated Universal Time
Please join us on February 4, 2020, for the first webinar in the Effective Outreach and Engagement Series. Outreach and engagement require a rich set of interpersonal skills and deep understanding of what it means to engage with someone who is struggling with significant vulnerabilities. Direct service providers and outreach workers will learn evidence-based practices and skills related to reaching out and assisting a diverse population experiencing homelessness, including those with serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders (CODs).
Service care providers report that it is easy to become too involved in their clients’ lives and issues. Conversely, as providers become overburdened, they may distance themselves from their clients more than they should. This session will focus on improving understanding of professional boundaries; building relationships that are healthy for the provider and the client; and using information about power differentials, red flags, and the fine line between over- and under-involvement. The session will also focus on employing professional ethics in client/provider relationships.
HHRN team member Kate Rio will moderate. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, which will be addressed at the end of the presentation. A link to the recording will be made available.
