The beloved mountain lion who roamed Los Angeles inspired a wildlife movement, artists, even musicians. P-22 was first discovered to be living in Griffith Park by USC Dornsife Alumnus Miguel Ordeñana (B.A. '05 environmental studies), who recorded the big cat on camera while working with local biologists at the Griffith Park Connectivity Study. P-22 crossed two major freeways and lived in an urban habitat for a decade. He suffered from injuries and was euthanized in 2022. Ordeñana explains P-22’s legacy and his special connection to the most famous mountain lion in America. The USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is the academic core of the University of Southern California, located in the heart of Los Angeles.
