OER Faculty Panel

At the end of the Spring 2023, there was a virtual faculty panel about Open Education Resources (OER) with campus faculty. Six faculty members from UM-Dearborn shared their experiences applying for OER grants, writing OER textbooks, and redesigning their courses to use quality educational materials that have an open license or are available in the public domain.

Panelists:

  • Antonios Koumpias, Assistant Professor of Economics
  • Ben Wielechowski, Lecturer of Journalism & Media Production
  • Jill Darling, Lecturer of Composition & Rhetoric
  • Patricia Graybeal,  Lecturer of Accounting
  • Sofia Calzada-Orihuela, Lecturer of Spanish
  • Yi Maggie Guo, Associate Professor of Information Systems Management

Thank you to Alan Wiggins for moderating the panel discussion and to everyone who participated in this productive discussion.

Here is the link for the recording of the OER faculty panel discussion (one hour long):

Some students do not purchase the textbooks required for their courses simply because they cannot afford them. OER is an initiative born due to the rising costs of textbooks to reduce economic barriers for students. Here is more information about OER.

There are several grants to support UM-Dearborn faculty with their OER work. If you are interested in applying for OER grants, email the OE committee at oedearborn@umich.edu.
