Ewing, N.J. – Stockton University (8-5, 3-3 NJAC) played a solid first half but was outscored by 20 points in the second half, resulting in a 59-34 setback in a conference game at The College of New Jersey (9-4, 4-2). The Lions shot a blistering 65 percent after halftime.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) led the Ospreys with eight points, five rebounds, a game-high four steals and two blocks.
Imene Fathi (Wildwood/Wildwood) and
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) contributed seven points apiece.
Madison Dulude (Sewell/Washington Twp.) tied Morrone for team high with five boards. The teams were close in rebounds (33-28), turnovers (15-14) and steals (9-9), but shooting percentages were the difference. Stockton shot 26 percent from the floor while TCNJ hit 48.9 percent from the field.
Stockton trailed by a slim 10-9 margin after a first quarter in which Fathi scored five points. Four Ospreys netted two points apiece in the second stanza as the Lions crept out in front 22-17.
The game swung in the third period as TCNJ shot 54.5 percent (6-11) contrasted by Stockton's 20 percent (3-15). The Ospreys trailed by as much as 17 in the quarter, which ended at 39-25.
The home team actually increased its scoring pace in the fourth period by shooting a scorching 7-9 (77.8%) including a perfect 2-2 from three-point range in dealing Stockton the 59-34 defeat.
Nina Branchizio paced TCNJ with a game-high 12 points followed by Izzy Leazier with 11 markers.
Stockton will be on the road again on Saturday for an NJAC game at Montclair State that tips off at 3 p.m.
