Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Stockton University will be hosting 20 Years of Martin Luther King Day of Service on:
Monday, January 15, 2024!
It will be entirely in-person and feature projects both on campus, in the community, and through the Galloway, Atlantic City, Woodbine, and Hammonton sites.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is Stockton University’s signature Annual Day of Service.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service brings together over 500 students, community members, and community partners, and often encompasses over 15 projects both on- and off-campus. The goal of Days of Service are to provide an intensive, community-wide experience for students and to introduce them to partners where they can serve long-term and develop an ongoing relationship.
Masks are optional but not required for this event.

Los Latinos Unidos
Pencil Case Making for the Local Youth
New Angles for Success - Stockton University
A presentation to the visiting 5th and 6th graders, a tour of the science buildings, a casting simulation in front of USC II, and a gytoku fish printing activity.
Stockton Circle K
A variety of smaller-scale craft-based service projects. In the past, we have prepared snack baggies to donate to the Osprey Food Pantry, created decorative wreaths to donate to a local nursing home, made birthday cards to donate to hospital patients, made literacy flashcards to donate to underserved students, and offered other similar projects.
Active Minds/Social Work Club
Button Making with positive affirmations written on the buttons and Mandala Rock Painting as a therapeutic painting activity
Stockton Honors Program
Making cat toys for the animal shelter
Stories of Atlantic City, Stockton University
Stories of Atlantic City (SOAC) is proposing three storytelling stations that will encompass telling your own story, writing a hand-written note to a community member, creating buttons/pins that promote the SOAC project, and learning about how even a small button can become a storytelling opportunity.
Save Barnegat Bay
Helping the Save Barnegat Bay Staff promote our paid student grant program (applications open mid-January to undergraduate students) across campus. Hang fliers, post in local groups, post on Osprey, share on social media, etc.

Scanning and archiving important historical documents of the congregation.
Caribbean Student Association
Making cards for local nursing homes
South Jersey Cultural Alliance
We need assistance in some field research, photo archiving project, and helping to organize and refile everything in the office
Church By The Bay
Sorting and hanging clothing, making hygiene kits, preparing sandwiches, stocking and organizing shelves in the food pantry.
Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore (Amity Acres Day Camp)
Painting picnic tables, cleaning and organizing the art room, and painting numbers on the tent structures.
Beacon Evangelical Free Church (Hope Chest)
Organizing and moving donated items, prepping dry food meals, and sorting donations.
Pine Barrens Birding Club
Grounds work at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.
Stockton University Newman Center
The students will be making meals for Saint John's Hospice, a homeless shelter in Center City, Philadelphia. The shelter accepts frozen pre-cooked casseroles, which they use as needed to feed the homeless. The meals will be delivered to the hospice after they are frozen. The casseroles consist of vegetables, meat, pasta, and sauce and the participants will help prepare the meals. https://saintjohnshospice.org/
Tiles with Smiles
Designing uplifting and inspirational tiles as gifts, for our Senior Housing residents, and to decorate local school, Our Lady Star of the Sea, with help from MudGirls Studio.
The Gift of Giving Hospitality Kits
Putting together gift bags of various donated toiletries, and uplifting notes of encouragement, for those in need.
AC Rescue Mission Lunch Service
Faculty, Staff and Students work on-site at the Rescue Mission, serving, preparing and assisting with lunch meal distribution.
Comfort and Care Buddies
Making colorful, fun hand puppets, to lift the spirits of the pediatric patients of AtlantiCare Hospital.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. , Theta Kappa Omega Chapter
In light of persistent racial health disparities, we will hold an interactive workshop focused on Black Maternal Health. We will also be collecting donations for a Community Baby Shower. Our presenters will be Crystal C. Charley, MBA, CD, Founding Executive Director of Melanin and Maternal Wellness. She will be supported by Stockton Alum, Danielle Coombs, Policy Analyst. The program co-presenter will be Toshira Maldonado, M.Ed., CPE , founder of Most Beautiful W.O.M.B. (Women Overcoming Major Barriers). The program will run from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm. Participants to include The Covenant House, Avanzar Women's Center and Atlantic City High School's Alternative School Program. The event will also be open to the public subject to space availability.

We have over 50 oral history binders that need to be digitized so that we can post them on our website and have them available to a wider audience. We want to creating an excel list of all the oral histories to create a cross-reference when people are looking for information on their family members, and will supplement our hard copy files.
