Let's take a walk down memory lane: what dorm did you live in your first year at #StocktonU? 🏫

I was at "Stockton State College" the FIRST year it was in business (1971)! The campus wasn't finished on time (of course) so they had "dorm rooms" and classes in a hotel in Atlantic City earmarked for demolition-The Mayflower Hotel. If you didn't live there, you lived anywhere you could. Classes were held in the hotel or anywhere the teachers wanted, ie: the beach. This was Atlantic City BEFORE it was renovated and transformed into a gambling mecca...drugs and prostitutes could be had on every corner. My roommate and I had a hotel room that overlooked the boardwalk. I remember being on the balcony and blowing bubbles over the Miss America parade. There were no grades per se-there was High Pass, Pass or Fail. You didn't have to declare a major-it was education for the sake of education... That changed when the school became accredited and became like all the other schools. I learned more that first year than I can say. I still have all my books that I read that year and still reread them from time to time. Definitely left an imprint on my life..."Time it was and what a time it was..."

I transferred after getting my Associates degree in December, mid-year. So, I began my Stockton experience in the spring semester. I was told there was no on-campus housing available, and I panicked. That same day, my HS buddy and soon to be roommate, and another lone student in the same "transfer" boat, took someone's advice to check out Brigantine. A day later after paying a security deposit, the school told us something opened up on G-court. Too late. Although I missed the SSC court living experience, we rented houses on the Brig dunes for $400/month for the next couple of years. Also, there was a large community of students living on the island back then. Oh, and there was the legendary Circle Tavern we could walk to! #memorylane

Is the nature trail, it started about at the theater building, still there? Worked on that in '74 in our Creative Teaching class. There was a bridge over a small stream too.

Unfortunately I predate dorms. We did have shared apartments (The Courts)- but I was a Brigantine nomad for two years, Until I was lucky enough to score some rental housing at "Blueberry Hill" in Good Old Port Republic. (3 mile walk = 1 hour) - I did couch surf one summer in one of the courts. It was what it was - A great learning opportunity and experience!! (78-82) Thanks S.U.!! 😎

The COURTS!!!! 1983 - B for my CREW!!!!

I dorm, 2nd floor, Fall 1992-1993. Not sure who was in charge of assigning roommates & housing back then but I am forever grateful to them. There were friendships formed on that floor that have lasted all these years.
