Stockton Wins Season Opener 51-47

Reading, Pa. – Stockton University began the 2022-23 season on a high note with a 51-47 victory on the road at Alvernia University (0-1). The Ospreys outscored the Golden Wolves 16-10 in the last eight minutes to secure the win.
 
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) scored a career-high 18 points to lead Stockton. Jennings tied for game-high honors in scoring and also swiped a game-high five steals. The junior shot 6-13 from the field and 6-8 at the line.
 
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) and freshman Nicole Strumolo (Denville/Morris Catholic) tossed in eight points apiece, with Strumolo also grabbing seven rebounds in her first college game. Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) tied her career high with 10 rebounds and dished four assists.
 
Stockton shot 5-9 from the floor (55.6%) in a first quarter that ended in an 11-11 tie. Jennings scored five points in a 12-5 second period that gave the Ospreys a 23-16 lead at the half.
 
Strumolo and Jennings opened the third quarter with consecutive baskets to give Stockton its largest lead at 27-16, however Alvernia closed the gap to 33-30 entering the fourth quarter. The Golden Wolves kept the momentum and pulled ahead 37-35 with 8:07 left in the game.
 
The Ospreys reeled off the next five points to take the lead for good at 40-37. Alvernia later pulled within 48-47 with 43 seconds left, but LaRosa went 3-4 at the line the rest of the way to preserve the lead and seal the 51-47 triumph.
 
Taliyah Malone tied Jennings for the game scoring lead with 18 points for Alvernia. Tamia Wessels added nine markers for the home team.
 
Stockton will be on the road again on Saturday for a matchup at St. Elizabeth that tips off at 1 p.m.
