Four Resources for Supporting Faculty with Remote Advising

Faculty advisors may find the following resources of value during this period of remote academic advising:

Starfish, for a holistic view of your students’ success. Starfish provides faculty advisors with:

  • Integrated online scheduling
  • Streamlined access to each student’s progress report (Degree Works)

A single system for providing and recording student feedback based on their course performance (e.g., kudos, flags), for referencing feedback during advising sessions and recording session notes, all to inform an individualized approach to educational planning

Liaison model for expanded faculty advisor support

OAA advisors serve as liaisons between the OAA and many of the undergraduate programs across the College. The liaison’s role is to support faculty in their role as academic advisors.

Faculty advisors who are in need of support are encouraged to communicate directly with their designated liaison.

Advisors in the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) complement the role of faculty advisors

OAA advisors complement the faculty advisor’s role by providing all students – declared or undeclared – with assistance in the following areas:

  • Clarification on degree requirements & academic policies
  • Academic advisement outside the major
  • Student support (e.g., Starfish, midterm evaluations)
  • Campus-wide resource referrals

General advisors in the OAA will always refer students to their major advisor for registration clearance and for academic advisement in their major.
