Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (17-8, 14-4 NJAC) finished up the regular season on a high note, as the Ospreys downed Rutgers-Newark (14-11, 10-8 NJAC) by a 64-52 score on Wednesday night. Â
Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington/Irvington) topped the squad with a season-high 12 points. Stockton won for the fourth straight game.

The game featured the top two defensive teams in the NJAC and lived up to the billing. Points were hard to come by as the squads fought for every point. The Scarlet Raiders shot just 39.1% (9-23) while Stockton hit on just 11-31 (35.5%) during the first half.

With the score knotted at 8-8 after five and a half minutes of play, the Ospreys were able to slowly pull away for a 31-23 lead at the break. Nyamekye tallied seven of his points with freshman
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) adding five markers during the first 20 minutes of play.

The visitors came out in the second half and put on a scoring run of 21-10 to forge a 44-41 advantage with 11:46 left in regulation. The spurt was aided by four three-point baskets by Rutgers-Newark. Stockton was able to weather the storm as freshman
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) tied the contest with a three ball for a 44-44 tie.

After the Raiders regained the margin at 47-44,
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) tallied the next five points for Stockton to put the home team in front at 49-47 and take the lead for good. Six more points pushed the lead to 55-47, highlighted by a
Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) three ball with 4:37 remaining.

The Ospreys were able to keep the Scarlet Raiders at bay and sealed the game with five of six foul shots down the stretch for the 64-52 victory.

Nyamekye also shot 5-7 from the field, 2-3 from the foul line and seven rebounds, while Flanders was the only other Osprey in double figures with 10 points. Freshman
Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) led all players with a game-high nine rebounds, with
Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) and
Kadian Dawkins Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) dishing four assists each.

Rutgers Newark was topped by Mike Vick with a game-high 14 points, Teammates Chase Barneys and Jamir Patterson added 12 and 10 points respectively.

Stockton will have a first-round bye in the NJAC Tournament and will host a semi-final next Wednesday at 7pm against an opponent to be determined.
