Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (10-15, 5-13 NJAC) captured its season finale with a convincing 84-54 victory over Rutgers-Newark (4-21, 2-16 NJAC) on Wednesday night. Senior
Lajerah Wright (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) ended her career with career highs of 23 points and five blocks.

The Scarlet Raiders scored the first three points of the game before the Ospreys rattled off 10 straight points to take control in the first period. The visitors knotted the contest at 17-17 with 1:39 remaining, but Stockton scored the last five points of the period for a 22-17 lead.

The game remained close until Stockton put on another spurt on hot shooting. The Ospreys held a slim 22-20 margin at 8:31 of the second frame when they ran away from the Raiders with a 12-2 run to take a commanding 34-22 advantage in a span of over five minutes. Wright and
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms Rivers South) tallied four points each during the run.

Stockton finished up the half leading 42-31 as the home squad shot 53.3 percent (8-15) during the quarter. Wright led the way with 11 markers, with
Maddie McCracken (Wildwood/Wildwood) and Donzanti adding nine and eight points respectively.

The Ospreys never took their foot off the gas in the third period, hitting 50 percent on 11-22 shooting in a decisive 25-8 quarter that put the game away. Rutgers-Newark hit a three to start, then Stockton scored the next 13 straight points for a 55-34 lead with 4:59 left in the stanza. Six points by Wright and freshman
Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) did the damage.

The margin ballooned to 35 points in the final quarter at 78-43 as Stockton was never threatened. The contest became academic the rest of the way, with all nine available players scoring points for the Ospreys.

In addition to her career scoring night, Wright pulled down 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, shot 9-16 (56.2%) and swiped four steals in her last game. Fellow senior Raquel Harris Scott (Pine Hill/Overbrook) tallied a season-high 14 points, with Donzanti and Alves garnering 10 markers apiece. Donzanti tied her season high with seven assists and pilfered five steals that topped all players.

Brielle Mattiello and Hannah Ashby scored 12 and 10 points respectively for Rutgers-Newark.

Stockton finished the season with 10 wins, a two-victory improvement over last year.
