Entry Level Utility Forester

Starting at $20.00 - $30.00 per hour, the position we seek to fill consists of a team which work collaboratively and in conjunction with the North Coast Project Manager. The roles and responsibilities of this position are often changing and as such requires some level of flexibility depending on the client’s needs.
Foresters will work closely with the Senior Utility Foresters and the Project Manager for guidance and direction. The Utility Forester will work in the field 85% during the work week and may include duties such as (but not limited to): training tree crews (TCs) and Pre-Inspectors (PIs) on the California Forest Practice Rules (FPRs), overseeing TC operations to ensure FPR compliance, flagging sensitive areas for riparian buffers, bird nests, or cultural awareness and ensuring proper documentation and communication of those work sites with the PM and the VPM, QA/QC of tree work completed or of PI field reviews, and/or assisting with the Work Verification (WV) team.  Daily communications with the PM and the other Utility Foresters are considered crucial as well as field documentation of onsite work. Weekly reports with field documentation and photographs are an expected as part of this position. Foresters should also become familiar with PG&E Best Management Practices (BMPs) and should eventually be able to provide interpretation for mitigation and remediation procedures for ground operations (public speaking).
Safety is paramount for this position and a culture of speaking up if you observe something unsafe is important. Daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) are required as is maintaining fulltime Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while in the field.
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·        Promote safety procedures and a safe working environment.
·        Be familiar with or be willing to learn PG&E hazard procedures and notifications.
·        Learn and follow PG&E environmental procedures and notifications.
·        Interest in gaining knowledge and field application of the California Forest Practice Rules Act.
·        Possess excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication to stakeholders, Project Managers, utility company vendors, and utility company employees.
·        Properly report and provide updates to higher management.
·        Be proficient with handheld devices and programs on a computer system (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS, etc.).
·        Have the ability, or interest, to learn to identify local trees and shrubs, as well as some understanding of Threatened/Endangered species in the area.
·        Ability to work in adverse field conditions and steep and rugged terrain.
