Sociology Professor’s book makes Choice Magazine’s Outstanding Academic Titles list

“Struggling in the Land of Plenty: Race, Class, and Gender in the Lives of Homeless Families,” the recently published book by Professor of Sociology, Chair of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Anne R. Roschelle, selected as one of Choice Magazine’s Outstanding Academic Titles for 2020.

Choice is a publication of the Association of College and Research Libraries, and their recommended book list is one of the most prestigious prizes in the world of scholarly publishing.

“Presenting the list this year is especially gratifying because of the hard work and perseverance from the academic publishing community and the Choice reviewers and editors who kept the trains on the tracks during a global pandemic,” said Bill Mickey, Choice editorial director.

Struggling in the Land of Plenty” explores widening inequality in the late 20th century, with a particular focus on poverty affecting women and children. It was one of 531 books and digital resources chosen for inclusion on the Choice list.

The complete list is available only to Choice subscribers, but the publication will offer a series of “sneak peeks” to give an overview of the year’s best academic nonfiction in select subject areas. Visit Choice online each week to see these carve-outs from the full list.
