Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-2) captured their fourth straight victory with a thrilling 2-1 win over Moravian University (2-5) in a shootout on Wednesday evening. Goalkeeper
Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) stopped all four Moravian attempts in the shootout to help the Ospreys to the victory.
After a scoreless first half, Stockton broke through for the first score.
Jamilyn Hawkins (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) poked in her second goal of the season duirng the third period at 38:04. Hawkins potted the score after freshman
Miana Alessandroni (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) pushed a pass that Hawkins converted. The assist was Alessandroni's first career point.
The Greyhounds knotted the contest with less than five minutes to go on a nice play off a penalty corner. Sarah Bietka tipped in a pass from Maddie Call to tie it at 1-1 and sent the match to extra frames.
Moravian turned up the heat in the two extra periods, outshooting the Ospreys 6-1 but could not break the deadlock and the outcome was decided in a shootout. After the Greyhounds missed their first attempt, Alessandroni hit the back of the cage. Mitchell made two saves against one for Moravian before
Rhian Freire (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) tallied the second marker of the shootout for Stockton.
Mitchell then sealed the game with her fourth save of the shootout to give Stockton the 2-1 victory. The goalkeeper finished with two saves during the 80 minutes of game action prior to the shootout.
For Moravian, netminder Brooke Wilkinson did not make a save in regulation.
The Ospreys next game will be a road trip to Oneonta, N.Y. on Saturday to face SUNY Oneonta. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
