WHITEWATER, Wis. (WMTV) - The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater honored their National Championship-winning men’s wheelchair basketball team with a Parade of Champions.

UWW won the program’s 14th national title in men’s wheelchair basketball, when they beat top-seeded Arizona 74-67 in the National Championship in March.

Six current or former Warhawks will represent the university as part of Team USA’s men’s wheelchair basketball at the upcoming Paris Paralympic Games.

Head coach Jake Williams said the support from the university has been wonderful.

“It took everyone from top top bottom,” Williams said. “We’ve been working for about two years now, day and night to try to bring it home, and it was great that it all worked out. The school has given us great support throughout the year and it doesn’t surprise me. Whitewater does great stuff fof their sports teams so we’re glad to be a part of it.”

The men’s wheelchair basketball team was also joined at the parade by Men’s 5,000-meter National Champion Christian Patzka, Men’s triple jump National Champion Shelvin Garrett II who set the facility record and met the minimum standard for the 2024 Olympic Trials, and Hayden Gough who won the Women’s Gymnastics National Champion on uneven bar.
