TROY – Michigan Science Center President and CEO Dr. Tonya Matthews will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for IoT TechConnect on April 4 at the Troy Marriott. This one-day event will focus on Internet of Things (IoT) companies, experts and training in Michigan. PlanetM, an initiative of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., is the title sponsor.

IoT TechConnect will feature content tracks to provide attendees with greater familiarity about the opportunities and threats posed by IoT. More and more devices are connecting to the Internet, so making sure they do not become a gateway for hackers to crack home, office and even autonomous vehicle computer networks is critical.

“We’re very excited to be working with Dr. Matthews, one of the true experts in Southeast Michigan for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM),” said Mike Brennan, editor and publisher of MITechNews.Com, a co-producer of IoT TechConnect. “She also will help us organize a STEM workshop for high school students to further stimulate their interest in pursuing college degrees and professional training in STEM. There are close to 100,000 STEM job openings in Michigan alone, so getting students interested in these careers is vital to Michigan’s economic future.”

The event is co-produced by CloudTech1, a Managed Service Provider in Rochester Hills. It’s CEO is Rick Beckers.

“As the owner of a business technology systems and support company I see the need for more, and better, STEM related training in order to fulfill the massive demand in our workplace,” Beckers said. “The unemployment rate in STEM related jobs is Zero percent and the demand is rising, and will continue to rise rapidly for many years, because of the Internet-of Things economy that is being deployed.  Dr. Matthews is a wonderful choice as our emcee and will be able to accurately explain the close ties between the training, the technology, and the rich career opportunities.”

More than 1,000 attendees will hear from industry thought leaders during keynote and breakout sessions. IoT TechConnect will address all these topics and more, including: augmented and virtual reality, industrial IoT, smart cities/smart homes, and connected tech.

“I’m honored to participate in IoT TechConnect,” Matthews said. “At the Michigan Science Center, we’re dedicated to becoming the STEM hub of Michigan and a premier institution for informal STEM learning. This event is a great opportunity to help prepare the local workforce for the technology of the future.”

Tickets for IoT TechConnect are just $20. Call 855.625.6831 to register.
