Dear Student,
As we watched the devastation brought by recent tornadoes and severe weather across the south, our thoughts and prayers are with you. The Ole Miss family understands how difficult it is when you and your family may be faced with loss, property damage, and uncertainty.
Emergency management agencies (state and local) continue to monitor for and respond to those who may need assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact your local county emergency management agency to report any damages from the storm or to seek assistance if needed. Other entities such as the American Red Cross, can also be of great help during times like these.

Additionally, we would like to help.
For academic support, please contact the Center for Student Success and First-Year Experience at 662-915-5970. While this office’s primary purpose is the support of new students, during this difficult time, the academic advisors and administrators are available to assist any student impacted by the recent tornadoes.
For stress management and/or anxiety, please reach out for help if you begin to have difficulty functioning with routine tasks. The University Counseling Center (UCC) offers a hybrid model of service delivery that includes tele-mental health. The UCC website has information on our services and how to schedule an appointment, as well as, information on various mental health issues including stress management techniques. The UCC will update the web page periodically with new information, so you may want to check back periodically to keep yourself informed.
If you would like to speak with a counselor, please either make an appointment online at this link or call the UCC (662-915-3784), and someone will speak with you about scheduling an appointment with a counselor.
If you need counseling to manage your stress and are currently physically located in Alabama, Arkansas, or Tennessee, please contact a local mental health provider or your primary care physician if you need a referral. Be sure the provider is covered by your insurance. Your insurance company should have a list of approved providers in your area or individual providers can tell you if they are currently on your insurance plan.
For financial concerns, please contact the Office of Financial Aid. You may have short-term or immediate needs for funding. In that case, an evaluation of possible options will be individually conducted. You may need to work with Financial Aid on a more long-term basis, using a professional judgment review to document how the disaster has impacted family resources over time. If the outcome shows a reduced ability to pay for annual college costs, you may qualify for more need-based aid in the future. Also, you are always welcome to contact the office at 800-891-4596 or finaid@olemiss.edu to explore funding sources that you or your family may not yet have exhausted.
For any other concerns, please call the UMatter office, 662-915-7248, or send email to umatter@olemiss.edu.
Again, we want to help and support you through this difficult time — please call on us as needed.
Sincerely yours,
