The Beverly Hillbillies rose to #1 more quickly than any other TV series

The series — which featured a nouveau riche hillbilly family that moves to Beverly Hills and shakes up the privileged society — rose to #1 within the first three weeks after its debut on September 26, 1962. This is a feat unmatched in television history to this day. The Beverly Hillbillies remained #1 for two years.

According to IMDb, Buddy Ebsen was offered the role of Jed Clampett on the strength of his playing a similar role in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961).

After the first season of The Beverly Hillbillies aired, an executive for sponsor Levi Strauss noted that Donna Douglas (who played Elly May Clampett) had done more for the sale of blue jeans in one year than cowboys did in a hundred.
