Shaggy's real name is Norville.

Along with Scooby, Shaggy is the only character to appear in every version of the show from 1969 to present — and neither one went by their real names. Scooby Doo's real name is Scoobert.

Contrary to rumors about the pair, Fred and Daphne always went off to explore on their own because the writers of the show enjoyed writing about Scooby and Shaggy more. Eventually, Velma joined Fred and Daphne to allow the writers even more time to focus on Scooby and Shaggy.

Casey Kasem, the famed radio host who voiced Shaggy, originally wanted to be the voice of Fred. Kasem had never considered himself to be a comedic actor. Similarly, Frank Welker, who is still the voice of Fred, originally wanted to be Shaggy because he wanted a funnier role.
