Andersson Named National Academy of Inventors Fellow, Wins Excellence Award

Texas A&M University and Uppsala University professor Leif Andersson has been elected a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

Andersson was chosen by the NAI Fellows Selection Committee for induction for his demonstrated “highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society.”

Andersson, a visiting professor in the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences’ (CVM) Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences (VIBS), and other elected fellows will be officially welcomed during a fellows induction ceremony on April 5, at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., during which Andrew H. Hirshfeld, U.S. Commissioner for Patents, will provide the keynote address.

Andersson also recently received an excellence award from the Swedish Research Council, a prize of approximately $600,000 per year for 10 years, which will fund his lab in Sweden for the next decade.

The National Academy of Inventors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit member organization comprising U.S. and international universities, and governmental and non-profit research institutes, with more than 4,000 individual inventor members and fellows spanning more than 250 institutions worldwide.

The NAI was founded in 2010 to recognize and encourage inventors with patents issued from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and translate the inventions of its members to benefit society.
