The Village of Skokie, Illinois, located 16 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 12 miles east of O'Hare International Airport, provides high-quality government services to the over 67,824 residents, 24,000 households and 2,400 businesses that call Skokie their home. Accessibility to transportation is a key advantage in Skokie, with the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94) spanning the community's western edge, seven Chicago Transit Authority and10 Pace suburban bus lines and the CTA's Skokie Swift rail line offering numerous options for public transportation. Skokie was the first community in the entire United States to have nationally accredited Fire, Police and Public Works Departments. Police Department The Skokie Police Department is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), a credential it has held since 1988. Fire Department The Skokie Fire Department holds both a Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), an independent organization used by the insurance industry to rate fire fighting capability, and full accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. Public Works In 2003 the Public Works Department achieved accreditation from the American Public Works Association, giving Skokie its status as the first town in the country to achieve this level of professional accreditation. Health Department In addition, the Skokie Health Department is only one of seven state-certified municipal health departments in Illinois and provides a wide range of services to Skokie residents.

  • ⛳ We're thrilled to welcome Puttshack to Westfield Old Orchard! 🍸 🍔 The 30,000-square-foot tech-infused mini golf experience opened Wednesday, bringing a new social entertainment venue to Skokie! The location also offers two full-service bars, a globally inspired food menu, and special accommodations for group experiences. ✂️ Mayor Ann Tennes, Clerk Minal Desai, and representatives from the Skokie Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Puttshack gathered on Wednesday afternoon to cut the ribbon. 🏗️ Puttshack is the final addition to the former Lord & Taylor space, which is also home to Arhaus, Zara and Pottery Barn, as part of Westfield Old Orchard’s ongoing redevelopment and transformation into a multifaceted lifestyle destination.

  • The Village's Economic Vitality Division grows and strengthens Skokie's vibrant small businesses community through a variety of programs, opportunities and services. 🤝 Sharing resources: Village staff connect businesses to technical assistance, coaching, financing and other support; convene business district stakeholders to share ideas and resources; and collaborate with businesses to solve issues and achieve their goals. 🎟️ Organizing events and initiatives: Together with local businesses, the Village develops programs that build community and support shopping and dining local, including the Holiday Cookie Walk, Start Your Day In Skokie coffee mug campaign, Tasty Treats on Snowy Streets progressive dining experience, and more. Foot traffic in Downtown Skokie increased by more than 100,000 visits in 2024. 🏪 Supporting storefront enhancements: Sunberry Orchard Market recently transformed a key corner property in Downtown Skokie. Village staff connected the business with experts in signage and exterior design, and the Village’s Storefront Enhancement Program filled the funding gap to help bring the business’s vision to life. 🔨 Funding TIF District improvements: The Downtown TIF Rehab Program recently supported the establishment of Pickledilly Skokie, an 11-court pickleball and athletic club located in a vacant former industrial space at 4919 Main St. The Village’s Economic Vitality Division helped connect the landlord with the tenant, forging a relationship that paved the way for this new recreational facility in Skokie. 🌱 Facilitating sustainable growth: The Village’s Green Business Recognition Program helps Skokie small businesses improve operational efficiency, save money, and reduce their environmental impact – and get recognized for their efforts in the process! 📣 Supporting marketing and promotion: The Village’s @exploreskokie account highlights the many dining, entertainment, retail and cultural attractions in Skokie. 📞 Get in touch: We want to support you.   • 👏 The Center Theatre at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie has been officially renamed the George Van Dusen Theatre! The newly named theatre honors Mayor Van Dusen’s 40 years of dedicated public service to the Village of Skokie—including 26 years as mayor and 14 years as trustee. Throughout his decades of leadership, Mayor Van Dusen has been a tireless advocate for arts and cultural initiatives in Skokie. His efforts have helped bring to life key institutions, including the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts In Skokie, the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center and the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park. Under his leadership, Skokie has also become a vibrant hub for public art, with the Village supporting the installation of sculptures and murals throughout Skokie.

Mayor Van Dusen kicked off the Bisnow event with opening remarks highlighting Skokie's proud history of innovation in science and technology, and Economic Vitality Manager Rodney Tonelli, AICP moderated a panel discussion on the policies and people driving key science leaders to the region. The Village highlighted local Skokie businesses, raffling off a gift basket with items from Sketchbook Brewing Company, Take Flight Spirits and Poppa Mac's Coffee.
