ARTISTIC DIRECTOR'S NOTES - James O'Leary

04.08.2024

As our “Sleuths and Spies” show fades mysteriously and secretly into the past, we want to thank those who made it a great evening: playwrights and poets Dave B., Leroy, David L., Jeffrey, Bill, Dave U. and Sean; actors Bryan, Linda, Adrian, Joi, Kurt, Emily, Mark, Maria, Mauro, Doug, Suzanna and Guy; directors Matt, Brenda and Lorraine; and production staff Beth, Bernie, Jeremy, John and the ushers. Thank you all!

Thanks also to Vintage Theatre for hosting us and our great audience (along with Colorado Free University for one of our rehearsals).

And welcome to our newest 7Night Stander, whose “Sleuths and Spies” play, “The Curious Case of the Teen Detective,” marks his seventh work for One Night Stand Theater: Jeffrey O’Leary.

Our next One Night Stand Theater show is “All Greek to Me” on June 2: an evening of theater inspired by the mythology and theater of Ancient Greece. The deadline for submitting short plays, short stories or poems for the show is April 22. Send them to Tickets@OneNightStandTheater.org.

We have finished rehearsals for “Sleuths and Spies” (so much mystery, deception, and intrigue) and we are almost ready to unleash our show on Sunday night, April 7. Join us for an evening of brilliant detectives, shady private eyes, and sinister secret agents. Here are two final quotes from our featured plays:

"Not being a patient man, I will throw a pinecone at you, which, I deduce, will bounce off your nose.” – Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Vacuity by Leroy Leonard

“I believe in zombies as much as the next girl detective.” – The Curious Case of the Teen Detective by Jeffrey O’Leary

“He went where he pleased; he saw all the action. Try crossing him, you’ll wind up in traction.” – Sammy the Sleuth by Bill Thompson

“I’m gonna die next to an absolute moron as the result of an even bigger moron.” – Bind… John Bind by Sean Wellengard
