Obituaries in Oklahoma City, OK | Oklahoman

David Bryan Timberlake died peacefully Sunday January 7th. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born July 5, 1941, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to M.D. and Cornelia Timberlake. Raised in Ponca City with his twin brother Don and sister Dana, Dave graduated from Ponca City High School in 1959. Throughout his High School years, Dave was a multi-sport athlete, member of the marching band (drum major and trombone player who led his band in the Rose Bowl Parade), and an accomplished member of the boy scouts – Dave was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and recipient of the God and Country Award. He was also inducted as an inaugural member of the Ponca City High School Hall of Fame in 2017

Dave attended OSU where he majored in Architectural Engineering. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Graduating OSU in 1965 with an Engineering degree, Dave went on to join the Army Corps of Engineers where he served from 1965-1968. During his time in the Army, Dave attended Basic Combat Engineering school, completed the Advanced Construction Management Course, and was an instructor at Ft. Belvoir. Dave was awarded the Army Commendation Medal in 1965 and 1966 for his Meritorious Service in the Dominican Republic during its Civil War.

Dave received his Registered Professional Engineers License in Oklahoma in 1970 and was a Registered Professional Engineer in 9 states and also held contractors’ licenses in 43 states.

In April 1976 Dave founded Timberlake Construction with a few thousand dollars and a dream - this year the company will celebrate its 48th year in business. From its humble beginnings Timberlake has grown steadily over the years and is recognized today as one of Oklahoma’s premier construction firms. Timberlake has built projects in 43 states including Alaska and their projects include some of the city and state’s most notable projects such as Will Rogers World Airport terminal expansion, Oklahoma Blood Institute, Devon/OCU Boathouse, the Will Rogers Archway (over the Turner Turnpike), and USA Hall of Fame Stadium to name a few. Timberlake was one of Dave’s proudest accomplishments – he loved nothing more than visiting jobsites and pointing out projects around town that Timberlake had built, always remembering little details about each of them.

Dave loved the world of construction and was a very impactful and influential member of the construction community. He was blessed with many great relationships with architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and many others in the construction community. He was a board member of the Associated General Contractors Association and served as their President in 1992. He was named “Builder of the Year” and elected to the Hall of Building in 1993. He was appointed by the Governor and served 4 terms as Chairman of the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission and was a member of the Advisory Committee for OSU School of Architecture. In 2014 Dave was inducted into the OSU College of Engineering Hall of Fame – in his own words it was “beyond a bucket list achievement”.

Dave was a longtime member of Downtown Rotary Club and served on the boards of YMCA, the Petroleum Club, and Commerce Bank. He was a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and was Chairman in 1983. He also served as an Expert Witness in the field of construction on many cases in Oklahoma.

Most importantly, Dave was a man of faith and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Edmond. Over the years he served as a member and leader of the property and finance committee, an Elder, and member of session.

While Dave’s academic and professional accomplishments were many – his greatest accomplishments and those that made him most proud were those of his family. He was blessed with raising two children, Bryan and Amy. He enjoyed many fishing and hunting trips over the years with Bryan, and countless hours at horse shows with Amy all over the country. Bryan and Amy were two of the many joys of his life. He relished their accomplishments and was very excited when Bryan stepped in to run Timberlake Construction in 2009, keeping the family business going.

On June 12, 2002, Dave married Sarah, and welcomed her two children, Max and Carlie, as his own. Dave and Sarah enjoyed traveling and spending time at their family compound on Grand Lake (the Land of Healing Waters as it became affectionately known). He very much enjoyed hosting friends and family at the lake, where they could all say they got to spend the weekend at “Camp David.” Dave enjoyed hunting trips with Max and late-night TP’ing escapades with Carlie and friends. Many a night you could find him enjoying the evening on the porch with a glass of wine and a good game of Gin Rummy.

Dave was a loving husband, father, brother, friend and mentor to many. He is survived by his loving wife Sarah Timberlake, his son Bryan Timberlake and wife Allison, daughter Amy Crump and husband Robert, Max Rhodes and wife Abby, Carlie Gruel and husband Andy. He was blessed to be a “Papa Dave” or “PPD” to 9 grandchildren: Reed, Lauren, and Sam Timberlake, Jarrett, Megan and Abby Crump, Brody and Judah Rhodes, and Phoebe Gruel. He is also survived by his twin brother Don Timberlake, wife Sue, and his sister Dana Puddy, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on February 10th, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond – 1001 S. Rankin St.
