WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University Athletic Director Victor Mansure announced today Nick Pezzarossi as the new men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach. Pezzarossi will begin his part-time duties immediately.

“We are very pleased to welcome Coach Nick Pezzarossi back to the Gallaudet athletics department and announce him as the leader of our men’s and women’s swimming and diving program,” said Mansure. “Coach Nick’s coaching experience, vision for our program, passion for our school and teaching aptitudes will help guide our student success efforts. During this time Coach Nick, Coach Larry and I, will be working together as we transition going forward. Please join me in welcoming Coach Nick to the GU Bison Family.”

Pezzarossi, 45, is no stranger to the Gallaudet swimming program as he served as an assistant coach on two different occasions. He served three years under former head coach Bill Snape from 2004-07 and one year under former head coach Rosemary Stifter in 2003-04.

Pezzarossi, who is deaf, takes over the Gallaudet men’s and women’s swimming program from former head coach Larry Curran, who recently stepped down. Curran guided the Bison swim program for the past eight years and led Gallaudet to two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men’s championships (2013-14, 2019-20).

“I want to thank Victor Mansure for giving me the opportunity to come back to Gallaudet’s pool deck after a 13-year hiatus to lead the Bison swimming program,” said Pezzarossi. “I am looking forward to working with swimmers, again, and help them achieve their personal and team goals in the pool along with life after college goals. I hope showing our swimmers direct access to communication will have a positive impact in and out of the pool. I would like to bring with me the knowledge I have gained from working with successful Gallaudet swim coaches in Larry Curran and Bill Snape and continue the proud tradition established by them.”

Pezzarossi swam two years in college at the University of Louisville (1995-97) after he swam four years in high school Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas. He was team captain his senior year at Cooper. Currently, Pezzarossi is a member of the District of Columbia Aquatics Club (DCAC) and swims on its Master’s swim team.

Pezzarossi worked as a career consultant at the GU Career Center from 2008-10 until he began working for the federal government.

Pezzarossi currently works for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the human resources department. He has worked in that department for nearly five years. Pezzarossi has worked in human resources for 10 years as he worked previously at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Department of Education.

Pezzarossi graduated from the University of Louisville in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Justice Administration. He later earned his master’s degree from the George Washington University in 2008 in Rehabilitation Counseling.

Pezzarossi is married to Dr. Caroline Pezzarossi, Professor of Psychology at Gallaudet University. The couple have one son, Nate, and reside in Takoma Park, Md.
