The International Jump Rope Union, the international federation for the sport of jump, in partnership with the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, today announced the awarding of the 2023 World Jump Rope Championships to the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The city is known as Olympic City USA.

The event will have 3,000 participants (athletes, coaches and officials) from more than 30 countries and will mark the first time the event will be held in Colorado Springs. The event will be a combination of the World Championships, as well as the International Open Tournament and the Junior World Championships and be held July 16-23, 2023. The finals for the World Championship event will be July 22-23. Featured events include:

• Double Dutch Contest – urban culture fuses with acrobatics, dance and music
• Single Rope and Double Dutch Speed – the fastest jumpers alive
• Single Rope and Double Dutch Freestyle – acrobatics with unlimited skill combinations and endurance 

The final rounds, along with some preliminary action, will be held at the state-of-the-art Ed Robson Arena on the Colorado College campus, marking the first major international event to be slated for the multipurpose space. Robson Arena seats 3,400 spectators and is a cornerstone of the Colorado Springs City for Champions initiative. Practice and preliminary rounds will also be held at the El Pomar Sports Center at Colorado College.

The sport of jump rope is one of the most accessible, diverse and economical sports for participation. The World Championship event will drive added interest in the sport in the U.S. and the world. The sport is low cost as all you need is a rope and a little space. The sport is growing with national governing bodies in 62 countries. It is also eco-friendly with minimal structural needs.

Previous sites of the World Championships include Oslofjord (near Oslo), Norway in 2019 and Shanghai, China, and Orlando, Florida (USA) in 2018. Two events were held that year as two organizations eventually merged to form the IJRU. The 2021 World Jump Rope Championships were held virtually due to the pandemic.
