Locket go great lengths for love in new “First Blush” video—watch

Locket, formerly known as Safe To Say, are getting ready to release their debut full-length album on Fearless Records, and they’re giving AP the details on their new music video for “First Blush.”

Following the release of “Out Of Sight” in May, the Toronto natives return in the self-produced video with a plan to retrieve a necklace locket and bust into a house with ski masks and flashlights. Singer/guitarist Brad Garcia says the video plays off the theme of being overwhelmed by a new romance.

You recognize how bad other things around you are by comparison and try your best to leverage your optimism,” Garcia says. “Basically, if the house is burning, fuck it. At least we’re in this together, and that’s enough.”

When asked if there was a deeper significance of the locket in the video, Garcia says it’s more of the idea of taking something back than the item itself.

“You can interpret that however you want, but I guess in a lot of ways it’s of course self-referential,” he says.

The locket reference comes after the band’s name change. Though Garcia says they never stopped creating between their renaming, their new album came together organically.

We never stopped making music despite putting shows on hold for that break,” he explains. “In that sense, it was seamless. Although as that time progressed, it all began feeling more and more natural. We could take every day as it came. We didn’t second-guess our gut instincts, and we didn’t force songs into becoming something they weren’t.”
