3 Artists You Don't Know At Coachella, But Probably Should Before Week 2

This article is more than 8 years old.

Coachella is known for three things: Big time headliners, reunion performances, and showcasing emerging talent (ok, maybe four things, let's not forget the obnoxious Instagram feeds laden with couture weekend hippies donning flower crowns by the bushel).

Of the 35 or so up-and-comers performing at the festival, more than half are seeing their online numbers boosted by the desert spotlight, and three in particular stand out as must-sees for the second weekend.

Steady Holiday is LA-based Dre Babinski's solo musical project. Pleasurable alt pop with a legitimate beat and hook, Steady Holiday played an early set at Coachella week one, and Babinski said that the livestream drove a bunch of outreach and interest from around the world. She is cleverly capitalizing on having a platform like Coachella at hand, while her full album doesn't drop until late June the digital version is available for preorder for just $5 through Monday, and $16 for first press vinyl.

Steady Holiday is seeing viral activity across networks. The week of her performance, Pandora spins of her track "Your Version of Me" were up close to 950%, and stations adds jumped more than 1000%. She added more than 200 Facebook page likes on the day of the performance, a 20x increase from the day before, and roughly 10% of her total, and a similar spike is evident on Twitter and Instagram as well. It seems she was a crowd pleaser.

While her fan base is still fairly small (she's classified as Undiscovered by Next Big Sound), it is super engaged, meaning that the ratio between the total number of followers she has online, and the amount of activity she is seeing on a daily basis is strong. Wondering what all the fuss is about? Catch her next set on the Gobi stage at 12:35pm on Sunday.

UK band Hælos have been touring the West Coast with their debut album Full Circle, making a few pitstops at Coachella before they head back across the Atlantic for more dates at home (don't worry they'll be back for Lollapalooza in August).

These guys are on fire lately, far outperforming benchmarks for Promising artists, and seeing their fan base actively engage with online content. Their strongest network is Facebook, where they have 12k+ page likes to date, but over the past six months they've grown the fastest on Pandora. The threesome is playing an early set on Friday in the Mojave tent, so make sure you stop by for a solid start to the weekend.

Taking the stage Saturday morning are The Dead Ships, another local LA band who have snagged a big win with a slot on the Coachella lineup. Similar to Steady Holiday, the self-proclaimed garage rock band still has a relatively small social following (4k Facebook page likes, and less than 2k followers on Twitter), but are seeing really high levels of engagement amongst their online fans – for instance, with only about 1,600 followers on Instagram, they've attracted more than 20,000 likes on their posts.

In addition, the recognition they'll see from performing alongside major artists at festivals this summer (The Dead Ships are also scheduled to support bands like Atlas Genius and The Mowgli's at Make Music Pasadena in June) will help them reach new fans and drive growth on their online platforms.

So if you're one of the many beautiful people attending Coachella this weekend, and want to boast that you've seen fresher faces than the standard big ticket acts like Calvin Harris, Guns N' Roses, or LCD Soundsystem, or just want to listen to some great new music, then take in a few of these recommended emerging acts.

According to the data it will be worth your while.
