In January the Raymond B. Jones College of Engineering hosted two Networking & Professional Development Guest Lectures. The first featured Joel Mehler who presented on "Cybersecurity Risk Management (or, How to Handle a Security Program)." The second program featured a guest panel with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A panel of experts including Lipscomb alumnus Brad Cressman, who is on the board of advisors for mechanical engineering presented "Powering Progress: USACE Hydropower Projects and Business in the Cumberland River Basin." In addition, an Engineering & Computing Mock Interview Night was held. Upperclassmen students and volunteer interviewers connected for mock interview rotations and then a time of open networking/reception.
National Engineers Week is Feb. 16-22 and the college has events planned throughout the week to celebrate. Events include ASHRAE Student Night (boutique career fair), National Engineers Week Celebration/Professional Development, and the annual Rocket Car Rally. Another Networking & Professional Development guest speaker is planned for February featuring Dr. Erdem Erdemir of Tennessee State University.
In March, several Peugeot Center for Engineering Service in Developing Communities teams will go on spring break missions. Destinations include: Honduras (Engineering-Honduras Outreach International) and Ghana (Engineering - Computing). The Honduras team will install a solar power system for 3 HOI clinics. The system will have a huge impact by expanding the capabilities of the medical facilities. The Ghana team will connect the network system at the administrative offices and residences at Village of Hope (VOH). The team will also prepare for the installation of full coverage wifi in the high school and the rest of the campus. Internet capabilities will greatly enhance the opportunities for the VOH organization.
April activities include the Order of the Engineer ceremony, mission trip send-off and senior awards and recognition.
Some student-driven activities this semester include:
Concrete Canoe Team - Canoe Casting Process is under way for 2025 competition, interdisciplinary team with Civil and Mechanical students working together on design and construction
Association of Computer Machinery (ACM) - Once again hosting a Girl Scout Badge Blast to support STEM education outreach to girls.
