Where Cleveland Institute of Art, Ann and Norman Roulet Alumni + Student Gallery
The ancient past brought about revolutionary material technologies. The melting of silica to produce workable glass, the firing of clay at such temperatures to change its crystalline structure, and the extraction and use of metals from the earth. These ancient processes were all drive by the ability to produce hotter and hotter fire, and are so effective that they are still used today.
While there are many great advancements in the craft disciplines studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, many of basics in glass, ceramics and jewelry and metals have been nearly the same for thousands of years.
This show is a collection of work from the junior class of CIA, working in craft disciplines. Taking these ancient technologies and expanding them for a contemporary world, through style, technique and concept.
The exhibition runs through January 10. Please note the the College will be closed for winter break from December 23 through January 1.
