Tomorrow is Family Star Wars Day! We are so excited to invite you into the resistance as we celebrate the Star Wars franchise this Saturday, May the 4th. Activities are happening around the building from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Here's a look at what we have planned: 🛸 Undergo Jedi training exercises like pod racing, and lightsaber skill-building. ✂️ Make a headpiece that features Yoda’s iconic ears. 🌋 Pick your own Death Star...then watch it explode. Explore what happens when baking soda mixes with vinegar in this fizzy acid-base reaction. ⚙️ Enter the Millennium Falcon (i2 Makerspace) to make an LED lightsaber to use on your Jedi journey. 📸 A Kylo Ren cosplayer from The 501st Legion will be on-site to meet with our Jedis-in-training and take photos. Here's hoping April showers are coming to an end...☔️ It's a new month which means a new monthly theme at Adventure Science Center! May is Senses Month so we are exploring all things sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. Here are a few of the ways you can join in on this theme: 📖 Early Explorers Storytime - Bring your pre-K kids every Monday at 9:30 am for a themed storytime and activity. Kids under five can explore crafts like making their own maracas and building a 3D model of an eye to take home and study. ⚙️ i2 Makerspace - Each week, explore hands-on science with crafts and activities centered around the senses. Craft your own kaleidoscope, 3D art, and bath bombs! 🧪 Live Science - Use your senses to experience six different LIVE demonstrations on fog, fire, steam, and more in the Eureka Theatre. We're proud to be inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders. Recently, the Vanderbilt University Career Center visited Adventure Science Center with fourteen graduate students and scholars. During their visit, this group learned from Vice President of Exhibits and Experiences, Dr. Morgan Rehnberg, about how their degree experience can empower them to work in museum curation, STEM education, community engagement, and outreach. As we teased last Friday, we have some new prehistoric friends making their way to the science center this year...🦖 More details will be announced this month about this exciting new experience, but, in the meantime, Adventure Gallery is closed as we start work on this gallery. Because of this work, Max Flight: Full Motion Simulator will be closed until Saturday, May 4. Additionally, guests attending shows in the Sudekum Planetarium will be directed through the first-floor Space Chase gallery to enter the planetarium.
