March for our Lives Sleeping Space Request Form - Friends Meeting of Washington (FMW)
If you will be in Washington, DC for the March for our Lives on Saturday, March 24, 2018 and are interested in sleeping at Friends Meeting of Washington (FMW), please complete this form.

FMW supports participation in the march and related events by diverse groups including people of color, LGBTQ, seniors, and youth / young adults. We are very glad that you are coming to DC for this march and look forward to supporting you!

ABOUT FMW AND THE OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS:

Friends Meeting of Washington (http://www.quakersdc.org) is a large Quaker Meeting in Washington, DC. We're located in a historic and peaceful building built in 1930. We have many active members and attenders who are involved in many activist causes both within and outside the Meeting.

We plan to offer sleeping space on the nights of March 23rd and March 24th only. At this time, our building will not be available for additional nights. We are able to offer floor space or space on the pews in our Meeting Room.  If this will not be comfortable for you, we encourage you to make other arrangements.  You will need to bring your own sleeping bag or other bedding.

Here's the bad news: Our facilities are limited including the availability of restrooms.  We do not have a shower available.  The majority of our building is NOT fully accessible to persons with disabilities and we have no elevator (though this will soon be changing as part of our upcoming renovation!).

There is no onsite parking available.  Limited parking is available on nearby streets (subject to DC's strict parking regulations) and several parking garages are also available in the vicinity.  Friends Meeting of Washington is conveniently located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood approximately 3 blocks from the Metrorail Red Line's North (Q St) exit and also close to many bus lines.

The building may be locked during the times the march is occurring and those sleeping in the building will not have access to personal belongings left in the building during those times.  Other events, both related to the march and unrelated, will be occurring at the Meetinghouse over the weekend.  Those sleeping in the building will need to be flexible and may be asked to move their personal belongings to accommodate other users. We will hold our regular Quaker worship on Sunday morning at 10:30am and welcome your attendance.

In addition, we will be beginning a major renovation project around the time of the march. While we do not anticipate major impacts to the building at that time, portions of the campus may be closed off for safety and staging of the project.

On the positive side, we plan to provide at least breakfast to those staying overnight and to others participating in the weekend's march and other related activities.

COSTS AND OTHER LOGISTICS:

We expect our space to fill quickly and will contact you within a few days to let you know if we are able to accommodate your request.  If you do not receive a confirmation email from FMW stating that we have space for you and your group, please make other arrangements.  We regret that we may not be able to accommodate everyone who contacts us.

We will confirm with you by email or phone that you still need accommodations during the week prior to the March.  If you do not respond, we will assume that you have made other arrangements and will offer your space to our wait list. If your plans change, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your space to someone else.

We will ask for a $20 donation to FMW per overnight as well as $5 for breakfast.  This money will be used to offset our costs to host march participants as well as for our Capital Campaign.  Our Capital Campaign will fund our renovation to make the campus more accessible and environmentally responsible.  However, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

In addition, goodwill donations will be accepted during your stay at FMW or may be made in advance via our website: http://www.quakersdc.org (click the 'Donate' link at the top).

OTHER RELATED EVENTS AT FMW:

FMW may host other related events over the weekend of the march. The schedule of these events is TBD.

DISCLAIMER AND AGREEMENT - PLEASE READ:

By submitting this form:

I understand that completion of this form is only a request for sleeping accommodations, not a guarantee.  Space will only be provided to those who receive a confirmation email from FMW and only for those listed on this form or otherwise identified to FMW in advance, subject to space availability at the time the request is made.

If my request for sleeping accommodations is confirmed by FMW and my plans or the number of people in my group change, I agree to let FMW know as soon as possible.  This will allow any extra space to be made available to those on the wait list. I also agree to respond in a timely manner to FMW staff or volunteer requests (by phone or email) to confirm my plans.

I agree to respect the historic and peaceful nature of FMW's property.  I understand that possession or use of drugs or alcohol is not allowed anywhere in FMW's buildings or on its campus.  In addition, I will not smoke tobacco anywhere on FMW property.  Due to FMW's location in a quiet residential neighborhood, I also agree to follow any other rules specified by FMW including curfew times and quiet hours.  FMW representatives (staff or volunteers) can ask anyone staying in the building to leave for violation of these rules.

In addition, due to the renovation project, certain areas of FMW's campus may be off limits for safety or staging. I agree to stay out of all areas which are closed due to this project. I also agree to stay out of staff offices or other spaces not open to those staying in the building unless FMW staff or volunteers give permission to enter.

FMW welcomes your attendance at any related public events that we host over the march weekend as well as our regular weekly worships at 9:00am and 10:30am on Sunday morning. However, FMW may also rent certain spaces to outside individuals and groups for their own private events. I agree not to disturb those events and to move my personal belongings upon the request of FMW staff or volunteers to accommodate any other activities happening in the building that weekend.

I understand that FMW is not liable for theft or other loss of any personal belongings brought onto its property.

Those sleeping at FMW hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless FMW and its trustees, officers, employees, and agents against any loss, liability, cost, or expense, including, but not limited to, judgments, amount paid in settlement, and attorney’s fees, incurred in the investigation of, defense against, and resolution of any claim for damages or restitution on account of bodily injury, personal injury, property damage or loss of property arising out of or resulting from the use of FMW’s premises and its officers, employees, members, agents, Vendors, and guests.
