Please note this position is for undergraduate students who will be on the Emory Atlanta campus for the Fall 2024 semester.

Thank you for your interest in serving as a peer mentor for our Welcoming Interfaith and Spiritual Exploration (WISE) pre-orientation program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist the coordinators with the recruitment of incoming student participants for the program
- Participate in peer mentor meetings and trainings (several in spring and summer)
- Serve as the primary student contacts for incoming students throughout the program
- Assist with set-up and break-down for activities and sessions throughout the program
- Facilitate reflection activities and co-lead program sessions for incoming students
- Participate fully in all program sessions and activities
- Help answer questions and inquiries from incoming student participants and families as needed
Time Commitment
- Interviews: February 27 - March 2
- Peer Mentor Welcome Meeting in April (exact date TBD) 
- Peer Mentor Move-in - Wednesday, August 14 (tentative date)
- Peer Mentor Training - Thursday, August 15 - Sunday, August 18 (tentative dates)
- New Student Move-in: Monday, August 19 (tentative date)
- WISE Program: Monday, August 19 - Friday, August 23
- Orientation begins: Saturday, August 24

Program concludes in the evening the day before Orientation. Additional commitments include:
- Be available for the entirety of specified peer mentor training.
- Be available for the entirety of the program.
- Participate in any required spring training and planning meetings.
- Be available to communicate via email during the summer months, including outreach to participants as needed.

The WISE Interfaith Pre-Orientation program seeks peer mentors from a variety of backgrounds, skill sets, and experiences. Core qualities that we look for in candidates include:
- Hard working, humble, and enthusiastic leaders.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a busy program and potentially stressful situations.
- Ability to recognize and maintain appropriate boundaries in relationships.
- Active modeling and encouragement of ethical behavior.
- Ability to respect and understand the diversity of students in a major life transition and work to meet the various needs of students with care.
- Awareness of one’s own limits/boundaries in helping relationships with others and ability to make timely and appropriate referrals.
- Ability to foster respectful and supportive relationships with staff, faculty and campus partners.
- Eagerness to understand training, information, and methods of support for new students.
- Passion for Emory University, welcoming new students, and interfaith engagement.
All Peer Mentors should be:
- Dedicated to facilitating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable experience to first-years of all backgrounds and identities
- Committed to their role of supporting incoming students through the duration of the Pre-O program
- Able to give, receive, and act upon feedback for the purpose of individual and program growth
- Willing to learn and strengthen the skills necessary to lead
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- In good standing with the university, with respect to academics and conduct
-Current Atlanta campus students OR second-year Oxford students
Compensation
This position will provide a stipend of $600. Free meals are provided during the peer mentor training and program dates. Student leaders living on campus in the fall semester are given early move-in on a set date according to program (students going abroad in the fall or living off-campus will be responsible for their own housing).
