Thousands flee Gaza City as Israel announces daily humanitarian pause

Israel announced on Thursday that it would allow for a daily “humitarian pause” that would allow for trapped residents of Gaza City to leave. Thousands continue to stream out of Gaza heading further south in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, fighting continues inside Gaza, however, with gun battles erupting near Al-Quds hospital where thousands had sought shelter. Elsewhere, the conversation is turning to Israel’s presence in the Gaza Strip. The US says Israel should not occupy Gaza permanently, but Israel has already stated it seeks to maintain an “overall security responsibility” indefinitely. The World’s Marco Werman spoke with Nathan Brown, a visiting fellow at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study, about what an Israeli occupation of Gaza could look like.
