Class of 2024 Walker Leadership Scholars Named

The Walker Leadership Scholars program has selected its two newest scholars for the Class of 2024, Nikki Chen and Danny Schreiber.

Each year, through a competitive application and interview process, two students from the first-year class are designated as Walker Leadership Scholars. These students accelerate their leadership development through added experiential learning opportunities and mentorship.

Nikki Chen portraitActivities such as lunch and learns with noteworthy pharmacy professionals, attendance at national meetings, and exposure to state and national legislative processes prepare the scholars to excel as advocates and leaders equipped to address today’s complex and changing health care issues.

Chen is from Columbia, South Carolina, and completed her pharmacy prerequisites at UofSC, as one of the first students to matriculate through the Gamecock Pharmacy Assurance program. She is interested in administrative, legislative and industry careers, inspired by her internship in the Regulatory Affairs department at Nephron Pharmaceuticals. She plans to pursue an industry fellowship after graduation.

It is inspiring to see the work that has been done as a result of this prestigious program and the incredible leaders in pharmacy that Walker Leadership Scholars Program has helped develop.

Danny Schreiber portraitSchreiber is from Toms River, New Jersey, and also completed his prepharmacy coursework at UofSC in the GPA program. Through his participation in research and student organizations, he found his area of interest –  clinical pharmacy with a focus in infectious diseases, specifically HIV.

“I hope to work at the intersection of pharmacy, research and public health to benefit historically marginalized communities,” says Schreiber.

Both students are enthusiastic about the opportunities the Walker Leadership Scholars program offers.

“I’m incredibly honored to be selected as a Walker Leadership Scholar,” says Chen. “I’m looking forward to connecting with and learning from other leaders across the country to become a better leader for the organizations I’m passionate about.”

Seeing the success of prior Walker Leadership Scholars has also built excitement.

“It is inspiring to see the work that has been done as a result of this prestigious program and the incredible leaders in pharmacy that Walker Leadership Scholars Program has helped develop," says Schreiber.
