Woody Tasch To Speak In Chattanooga On Nov. 18

Social entrepreneur Woody Tasch ?will be in town to talk? about social investing - where money and meaning meet on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 8:30-10 a.m. on Floor 5 of the Edney, 1100 Market St.  

Using Slow Money as an example, Mr. Tasch will discuss the idea of patient capital and explain how efforts involving local investing, civic engagement, and our food systems can intersect for a greater purpose.  His discussion will be moderated by Dr. Philip Roundy, UTC assistant professor of entrepreneurship.  

Breakfast will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.  Registration is requested at Eventbrite.  The event is made possible by Footprint Foundation, Benwood Foundation, and Causeway.?

Bio on Mr. Tasch:

Woody Tasch is the founder and chairman of the Slow Money Institute. Since 2010, dozens of local Slow Money networks and investment clubs have catalyzed the flow of $40 million into 400 local and/or organic food enterprises in the U.S., Canada and France.

Entrepreneur.com calls Slow Money “one of the top five trends in finance.” Tom Miller, former head of Program-Related Investing at the Ford Foundation and an early funder of Grameen Bank, said, “Slow Money is one of the most remarkable initiatives I’ve seen in decades.”

Mr. Tasch is widely renowned as a thought leader in patient capital, mission-related investing and community development venture capital. He is former chairman and CEO of Investor’s Circle, one of the oldest angel networks in the country and the only one dedicated to sustainability; since 1992, IC members have invested more than $200 million in early stage ventures. Mr. Tasch was founding chairman of the Community Development Venture Capital Alliance and Treasurer of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation during the 1990s, where he spearheaded the integration of asset management and grant making, including a substantial investment in Stonyfield Farm, now the world’s largest organic yogurt producer.

Mr. Tasch has worked as an entrepreneur, venture capitalist, board member and consultant with many companies and non-profits. Early in his career, he developed management case studies at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (Mexico), birthplace of the Green Revolution.

Mr. Taschis a frequent speaker and has been featured in the New York Times, Huffington Post, Resurgence, San Francisco Chronicle, The Sun and many other media outlets. Utne Reader named him one of “25 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World.”
