Wild & Scenic Film Festival – Salida

March 18, 2017 @ 4:45 pm - 9:00 pm

Guided

Buena Vista Wild & Scenic Film Festival is taking place the night before, Friday, March 17. Completely different films.

The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association and Central Colorado Conservancy have led the way in bringing environmental films to the Upper Arkansas Valley. The two organizations are again partnering to bring the Wild & Scenic Film Fest 2017, a world-renowned tour of the latest, cutting-edge environmental films, to Buena Vista on Friday, March 17 and to Salida on Saturday, March 18.  The two events will benefit GARNA and the Conservancy and include environmental and adventure films with different films shown each night. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival sits apart from the hundreds of festivals around the world by leaving you feeling INSPIRED and MOTIVATED to go out and make a difference in your community and the world.  Considered one of the nation’s premiere environmental and adventure film festivals, this year’s films combine stellar film making, beautiful cinematography and first-rate storytelling.

Tickets are ON SALE NOW via brown paper tickets.

Tickets also available at the Buena Vista Chamber, the SteamPlant Box office and GARNA and the Conservancy offices at 128 E First Street in Salida (upstairs).

Special VIP Event: 4:45 pm until 6:00 pm

Two additional films will be shown: Defendant 5 and Forget Shorter Showers…and, with your VIP ticket, have your early seat of choice for the main event!

Defendant 5: Young filmmaker Heidi Lee Douglas goes to Tasmania to make a documentary about the destruction of the island’s ancient forests. As anti-logging protests escalate, logging giant Gunns Ltd. reacts to public pressure by suing Heidi and 19 others for allegedly conspiring to destroy the company’s business. When Heidi discovers Gunns wants to use her footage as evidence to support its claims, she faces a crisis of conscience. Heidi’s response is to turn the camera on herself to document her personal struggle as she goes into battle against a corporation out of control.

Forget Shorter Showers: Would any sane person think dumpster diving would have stopped Hitler, or that composting would have ended slavery or brought about the eight-hour workday; or that chopping wood and carrying water would have gotten people out of Tsarist prisons; or that dancing around a fire would have helped put in place the Voting Rights Act of 1957 or the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Then why now, with all the world at stake, do so many people retreat into these entirely personal “solutions”?

Evening Film Lineup: doors 6:15 pm, 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm
