TikTok creator shares kitchen hack to never scrub a pot again

A TikTok creator who goes by the name of Madame Sweat (@madamesweat) recently shared a hack that allows her to never scrub a dirty pot again.

Sweat, whose real name is Mary Futher, is the founder and product developer of Kaia Naturals, a wellness and hygiene company. Sweat has gone viral several times for her advice on how to decrease body odor or how to fix skin pigmentation.

While many of her videos tackle hygiene tips, Futher ventured into household cleaning to share tips for efficiently cleaning the kitchen.

On Aug. 15, Sweat posted a video with her hack, showing followers how they can avoid scrubbing pots and pans.

“When your pots have debris all over them, what you want to do is fill the pot and use dishwasher pods,” she said. “Boil it on the stove until the water comes to a boil. Leave it for another five minutes. Pour it out. Voila.”

According to Sweat’s method, this should remove any debris from the bottom of the pan. Her hack is extremely hands off and appears to take little time as well. She also emphasized that people need to use dishwasher pods — which are believed to clean better than regular soap.

Over 3 million people viewed Sweat’s video and reactions came flooding in, with some people happy to learn a new trick and others ready to share their method for cleaning pots and pans.

“I just simmer it with salt usually just comes off no problem,” replied @lastwindryder.

“Wow this is freaking genius,” commented @ms.bellezatropical. “Catch me going to grocery store to buy dishwasher pods and doing this too all my pans at home.”

While several viewers enjoyed this hack, some people had reservations because of the alleged safety risk that boiling cleaning product brings.

In the past, TikTokers have posted videos about boiling Fabuloso, the popular multipurpose cleaner, in order to fill the house with a fresh scent or even just to do regular cleaning. Yet, commenters push back on these videos because of the potential risks.

“Put vinegar in a diffuser to neutralize the air. Boiled fabuloso is dangerous,” commented @cheeky_mari.

Experts have even frowned upon this practice because of its potential effects.

“Cleaning products have chemicals in them that aren’t meant to be boiled,” Jill Michels, managing director of the Palmetto Poison Center, said. “When you boil them, they’re vaporized into the air and it could cause a lot of irritation for people.

When using dishwasher pods, experts suggest preventing potential skin irritation with gloves. Some experts also recommend their use in cleaning different areas of your home.

Sweat’s method has additional benefits in addition to getting debris off the bottom of the pan. It also helps prevent pots and pans from potentially being scratched by tough scrubbing. Some outlets have encouraged soaking the pot and then cleaning it with a pot scraper — which should protect the coating on certain surfaces.

There are plenty of cleaning hacks on #CleanTok, and Sweat’s hack is just one of many furthering the conversation to find efficient ways to stay tidy.
