Do you manage a nonprofit center or are you in the process of developing a center? In this training series, NCN and Community Vision partner to introduce the basics and not-so-basics of asset management, property management, facilities management, and community management specifically with a social purpose real estate focus. These sessions are for any level of staff; they’re designed to be great refresher courses for experienced operators as well as good introductions for those newer in their roles.

Introduction to Asset Management

What happens when the roof needs repairing or the windows need to be replaced? Asset management is planning for the long term stewardship of your building – as a financial asset, as a workplace, and as the place where you welcome your community. We will discuss planning a major capital improvement project, portfolio management, and the responsibilities of organizations that own their facilities or that have responsibility for the capital needs of their leased facility.

Introduction to Property Management

How does running a multi-tenant nonprofit center differ from managing a standard commercial building and how is it the same? In this session we will highlight vendor selection, different types of leasing and licensing, and tenant relations, all through a social purpose real estate lens. We will review what typically falls under a property manager role and share tools for success.

Introduction to Community Management

We’ve all walked into a center and felt that “secret sauce” — a buzzing community, empowered tenants, and a place that feels like so much more than a workspace. How do you create and sustain a community? What infrastructure supports communication with and amongst tenants? How do you enlist tenants as stakeholders in the success of and safety within your workspace? This session will help you think about how to set the tone and create the collaborative infrastructure to build a welcoming, vibrant community within your center.
