Web Browsers: Allowing Pop-up Windows

Jump To
Firefox | Chrome/Edge | Safari

Overview

Some UT systems, such as IRIS Web, require pop-ups to be allowed for the site to fully function. Below are instructions for allowing pop-ups in many popular browsers.

Firefox

  1. When blocking a pop-up, Firefox displays an information bar (if it hasn’t been previously dismissed), as well as an icon in the address bar.
  2. When you click the Preferences button in the info bar or the icon in the address bar, a menu will display the following choices:
    • Allow/Block pop-ups for this site
    • Edit Pop-up Blocker Preferences…
    • Don't show this message when pop-ups are blocked
    • Show <site address>
  3. It is recommended to allow pop-ups for the website if the website is trusted (such as IRIS Web).

See Mozilla's support page for more information about pop-ups.

Chrome and Edge (new version with the wave icon)

  1. When blocking a pop-up, Chrome and Edge display an icon in the address bar.
  2. When you click the icon in the address bar, a menu will display the following choices:
    • A clickable link of the pop-up.
    • Always allow pop-ups and redirects from <site link>
    • Continue blocking
  3. It is recommended to allow pop-ups for the website if the website is trusted (such as IRIS Web).

See Google's support page for more information about pop-ups.

Safari

  1. When blocking a pop-up, Safari displays a message and an icon in the address bar.
  2. Clicking the message or icon will open the blocked pop-up.
  3. To permanently allow pop-ups, with the site you would like to allow pop-ups open, go to Safari > Preferences > Websites.
  4. On the left, scroll down and select Pop-up Windows.
  5. Under Currently Open Websites, select the appropriate site and change the dropdown to Allow.

See Apple's support page for more information about pop-ups.
