Venerable Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche (1938-2010)

Venerable Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche was born in 1938 in eastern Tibet. Around age 4 he began to read & write, and to learn the chants & ritual ceremonies at local Gochen Monastery, as well as lama dancing, torma making, & painting. At the age of 14, he went to the prestigious Riwoche monastic university where he excelled in Buddhist philosophy & the entirety of Hinayana, Mahayana, & Vajrayana teachings, as well as Sanskrit & Tibetan Medicine.
In 1965, Khenchen Rinpoche was selected by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche to represent the Nyingma lineage in a historic collaboration with all the Tibetan lineages to organize an education system for Tibetan refugees in India. Khenchen Rinpoche was a founding member of the Institute for Tibetan Higher Studies at Sarnath, India where in the early years he taught 12-14 classes per day. He also taught at Sanskrit University as head professor of Nyingmapa studies.
In 1984 Khenchen Rinpoche moved to New York to work closely with H. H. Dudjom Rinpoche, & in 1988, he & his brother Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche founded the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center. Khenchen Rinpoche authored over 25 books in Tibetan and English.
Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche worked tirelessly his entire life to pass on the authentic, ancient Buddhist teachings and has inspired many Dharma practitioners the world over, leaving a great legacy of peace, love, & wisdom. Truly, he is a son of Buddha Shakyamuni and Guru Padmasambhava, and we will honor and revere him & his legacy forever.

Buddha Shakyamuni “The great teacher Buddha Shakyamuni said that this is our nature—these qualities are not new ideas [...]

What is Meditation?

"It is exceptionally helpful to meditate every day at a regular time that is convenient for you. Early morning is ideal. In addition to your daily individual meditation, it is also very good to meditate with others. If there is a PBC meditation group available near you, it’s good to practice together with them in [...]

Who is Padmasambhava?

In Tibetan, Guru Padmasambhava is generally referred to as Guru Rinpoche, which means “precious master.” Guru Rinpoche is a totally enlightened being, a fully awakened one, a buddha. He did not become enlightened gradually, or start practicing the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni and eventually achieve enlightenment. Guru Rinpoche incarnated as a fully enlightened being.
