In a few short days, our students will be moving to campus. For the first-year student (and family), this will be a core experience and memory. We have had the joy of moving two students to The Commons. As you prepare to move your freshman in, don’t stress over the small stuff. Remember, there is nothing your student will need that they cannot get themselves later. The dorm room does not have to be “finished” before you leave. Instead, spend time getting to know other students and parents. Familiarize yourself with Vanderbilt and all the opportunities and resources available. Prepare yourself to rip the Band-Aid off to say goodbye before 5 p.m. so they can start their journey with planned CommonVU programming and you can attend the parents’ sessions that evening. Puffy eyes, wet cheeks and sweaty clothes are welcome! Think of it as a support group. We will be at The Commons during move-in, so please stop by and introduce yourselves. Finally, look ahead to Family Weekend and make necessary arrangements to attend on Oct. 13–15. We look forward to an amazing year as we continue celebrating 150 years of Vanderbilt. Anchor Down!
