The Unity Challenge to Dismantle Racism is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Participants will explore racial equity and social injustice through activities designed to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.
This challenge was created by the Dismantling Racism Coalition of Stark County, a collaboration between 15 organizations: Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health, Coming Together Stark County, The Greater Stark County Urban League, Kent State University at Stark, Ohio Department of Education State Support Team Region 9, Stark County Collaborative on Race Relations, Stark Education Partnership, Stark County Educational Service Center, Stark County Health Department and local health departments (Alliance, Canton City, and Massillon), Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery, United Way of Greater Stark County, and YWCA Canton. .
Participants are presented with challenges such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, reflecting on personal experience and more. Activities like these help us to discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact our community, to connect with one another, and to identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination. This challenge is an exciting opportunity to dive deep into racial equity and social justice. We hope you will join us on this journey!
This challenge was originally developed by Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. and Debby Irving and has been adapted by many organizations across the country. We would like to thank the many organizations, especially United Way of Washtenaw County and YWCA Cleveland, that helped localize information and adapt this training to Stark County!
