Jean Shafer Barnes, daughter of the late William and Sara Shafer of Moon Township, died on October 26, 2020 in Orlando, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur P. Barnes. She is survived by her son William Barnes of Orlando, Florida, her daughter Diane Forer of Cranbury, New Jersey, their spouses, three grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
Until moving to Florida in 1967, Jean was a lifelong resident of Moon Township. Her parents owned and operated Shafer Coach Lines out of Coraopolis and were land developers and philanthropists. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, community volunteer and Sharon Presbyterian Church member. She and her husband Wil left the area for St. Petersburg, where they owned a deep water marina on Boca Ciega Bay. Wil later became the Executive Director of the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority. Upon his retirement, they moved back to the area to assist in the family-developed Broad Hill Farms residential community. After Wil died, Jean moved back to Florida, where she resided until her death.
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Coraopolis Cemetery. Services will be private with a zoom celebration of life to be held at a later date.
